With a strong emphasis on women’s empowerment, the state government has introduced various schemes to uplift its female citizens. Chhattisgarh Mahtari, representing a fusion of cultural heritage and modern technology, stands as an inspiring symbol of progress and empowerment. These were the sentiments expressed by Smt. Priyanka Gandhi during her participation in the grand Mahila Samridhi Sammelan held at Jayanti Stadium in Bhilai.
As part of this event, Chief Minister Shri Bhupesh Baghel inaugurated 186 development projects worth Rs 309 crore 56 lakh for the Durg district. This significant allocation includes the groundbreaking of 123 projects valued at Rs 241 crore 59 lakh and the inauguration of 63 projects valued at Rs 67 crore 97 lakh. During this occasion, Chief Minister Baghel also unveiled the Chhattisgarh Mahtari Cultural Promotion Scheme aimed at enhancing cultural heritage and tourism centers.
In her opening address, Smt. Priyanka Gandhi greeted the audience with chants of “Dai Didi Man La Johar,” paying homage to Chhattisgarh Mahtari and celebrating Maa Bamleshwari. She began by addressing the pressing issue faced by many – inflation. Smt. Gandhi applauded the Chhattisgarh government’s relentless efforts to bolster the financial strength of its citizens, particularly women. She highlighted that Chhattisgarh offers the highest price for paddy across the country, attracting a resurgence of interest in farming, unlike other regions where the number of farmers is dwindling.
One of the unique solutions Chhattisgarh has provided is the creation of Gauthans to address the challenge of stray animals menacing crops, a problem plaguing agriculture in many parts of India. Smt. Priyanka Gandhi emphasized that she frequently mentions this innovative approach to agriculture when visiting other states.
Mrs. Gandhi expressed her appreciation for the stalls she had visited before the conference, particularly noting the impressive work of countless groups of women in Chhattisgarh. Their tireless work showcased their dedication and passion while serving as an exemplary representation of women’s entrepreneurship in the nation. She spoke with many self-reliant women who exuded deep confidence and displayed contented smiles. They attributed their progress to the government’s support, enabling them to stand independently. Mrs. Gandhi highlighted the young doctors delivering healthcare services in remote villages and women creating various products through collective efforts, demonstrating significant progress since joining these groups. Through these encounters, she perceived a Chhattisgarh Mahtari holding both the cultural heritage and the modern world in her hands.
Mrs. Gandhi underscored the extensive range of schemes introduced by the Chhattisgarh government, all with the goal of empowering women. She celebrated women as the backbone of the country’s social fabric and family structure, commending their dual roles as caregivers and contributors to society. She lauded the government’s initiatives, such as increased honorarium for Anganwadi workers and assistants, the Dai Didi Clinic providing free healthcare, the Mahtari Jatan Yojana offering nutritious food to pregnant mothers, and waived loans for women self-help groups. Additionally, thousands of women have gained employment through the Mission Clean City project, showcasing the government’s commitment to uplifting its female population.
Chief Minister Shri Bhupesh Baghel, in his address, emphasized the longstanding tradition of respecting women in Chhattisgarh’s society. The state boasts a commendable gender ratio, and men and women work together seamlessly in various capacities. Women actively manage households while participating in the workforce, reflecting the state’s commitment to gender equality. The government has introduced inclusive policies, such as the Old Pension Scheme for employees, higher loan limits for self-help groups, and loan forgiveness programs.
Furthermore, Shri Baghel touched upon Chhattisgarh’s rich cultural heritage and its integration into development plans. The state has preserved its customs and traditions, celebrating festivals like Teej and supporting local practices. Notably, the Teej festival is observed with reverence, reflecting the government’s respect for local traditions. He expressed pride in the government’s commitment to preserving Chhattisgarh’s cultural identity, evident in initiatives like creating model Jaitakhambh, developing Krishna Kunj, and beautifying the Ram Vanagaman circuit.
In closing, Smt. Priyanka Gandhi mentioned that Chhattisgarh’s progressive approach and dedication to women’s empowerment make her proud to be in Bhilai. She acknowledged Bhilai’s significance in India’s history, as it was here that Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru laid the foundation for a steel plant in 1955. The city’s progress exemplifies the foundation of modern India, symbolizing the spirit of leaders who fought for independence. Today’s leadership continues this legacy, working to improve both the present and the future.
Mrs. Gandhi reminisced about visiting Amethi with her father in her youth. She shared an anecdote about a woman scolding her father over poor road conditions, highlighting the accountability and commitment to public service that defined politics during that era.
The conference also featured speeches by Deputy Chief Minister Shri TS Singhdev, School Education Minister Shri Ravindra Choubey, Home Minister Shri Tamradhwaj Sahu, Women and Child Development Minister Mrs. Anila Bhediya, Excise Minister Shri Kawasi Lakhma, Bastar MP Shri Deepak Baij, and other prominent figures.
