TFP Bureau, Raipur; Sep 23, 2023: The Chhattisgarh State Renewable Energy Development Agency (CREDA) has once again soared to national prominence, clinching the prestigious Star Performance Award for outstanding energy conservation efforts. This accolade was presented during the 8th National Energy Management Awards ceremony hosted by the Society of Energy Engineers and Managers (SEEM) in New Delhi on September 21. Shri Alok Katiyar, Chief Executive Officer of CREDA, accepted the award in the presence of Dr. Ashok Kumar, Deputy Director General of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Government of India. Sanjeev Jain, Chief Engineer, and Rajeev Gyani, Superintending Engineer, also represented CREDA. Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel extended his warm congratulations to the CREDA team and the people of the state for this remarkable achievement.
This recognition marks CREDA’s third consecutive National Award by SEEM for exceptional performance in energy conservation, solidifying its position as a state-nominated agency. Over the past 11 years, CREDA has spearheaded significant strides in energy conservation and efficiency throughout Chhattisgarh. Notably, the state witnessed the launch of the Perform, Achieve, and Trade (PAT) project by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Government of India, across two phases. During this period, 44 industrial institutions in Chhattisgarh collectively curtailed carbon emissions by a staggering 6.67 million tonnes while saving an equivalent of 2.198 million tonnes of oil. Consequently, these efforts led to the issuance of over 10 lakh energy-saving certificates to industries by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE). In the spirit of promoting energy conservation in the commercial and residential building sector, the Chhattisgarh government introduced the Chhattisgarh Energy Conservation Building Code. As a result, 15 buildings in the state have received green building certifications, and a proposal to award star ratings to 8 government buildings is currently awaiting Central Government approval. To infuse energy efficiency into residential projects, the government has adopted energy-efficient construction techniques under ECO NIWAS Samhita. CREDA has organized over 150 awareness programs for engineers and architects to disseminate these techniques and enhance energy efficiency across the state’s buildings.
In a dedicated push to encourage energy-efficient appliances in rural areas, CREDA has transformed 77 villages into model energy-efficient villages. Likewise, 56 health centers and 376 government schools have been revamped into model energy-efficient establishments. CREDA has also been instrumental in raising awareness about energy conservation among school students through the establishment of Energy Clubs in 603 schools, with plans to expand this initiative to over 1,000 educational institutions in the coming year.
Recognizing the pivotal role of energy conservation in the agricultural sector, CREDA has conducted comprehensive awareness workshops for farmers. These initiatives, spanning all Krishi Vigyan Kendras in the state, educate farmers about the advantages of utilizing energy-efficient pumps to conserve both energy and finances. CREDA’s dedication extends to the promotion of energy-efficient equipment in government offices and institutions throughout Chhattisgarh, with the aim of reducing electricity consumption.
CREDA’s exceptional achievements have not only brought recognition but also cemented its role as a beacon of energy conservation in Chhattisgarh, fostering a sustainable and energy-efficient future for the state.
