NMDC Leads Mega Cleanliness Drive and Painting Competition on Gandhi Jayanti
TFP Bureau, Hyderabad, Oct 02, 2023: NMDC, the largest iron ore producer in the country, celebrated Gandhi Jayanti and observed the “Swachhata Hi Seva, Special Campaign 3.0” with a grand Mega Cleanliness Drive. This initiative spanned NMDC’s Head Office, Projects, and Regional Offices nationwide on October 1, 2023, as part of a larger campaign running from September 15, 2023, to October 2, 2023.
In commemoration of Gandhi Jayanti, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had called upon all citizens to collectively contribute 1 hour of “Shramdaan” (voluntary labor) for cleanliness on October 1st. NMDC responded to this call by conducting a massive cleanliness drive and a “Prabhat Pheri” (morning rally) at its major Projects in Kirandul, Bacheli, Donimalai, and Panna. Each project took the responsibility of cleaning one village as a gesture of “Jan bhagidari” (public participation) in support of Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals.
The commitment to cleanliness was palpable as NMDC employees, including those from various Projects and regional offices, actively participated in the cleanliness activities, aligning with their roles as responsible citizens.
In alignment with the Prime Minister’s vision for a garbage-free India, NMDC organized a painting competition under the Swachhata Hi Sewa Campaign at its Head Office in Hyderabad. The competition, aimed at enhancing public awareness, provided a platform for young talents to showcase their artistic abilities. Participants infused their creativity and innovation into their artwork, thereby contributing their passion to the cause.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Satyendar Rai, Executive Director (Personnel & Administration), expressed NMDC’s pride in actively participating in the Swachh Bharat Mission. The organization conducts periodic cleanliness and plantation drives at its Head Office and Projects, recognizing its role as a responsible miner. Mr. Rai emphasized the importance of taking charge of cleanliness in individual capacities and embracing eco-friendly practices to ensure a greener and sustainable future.
NMDC’s commitment to cleanliness extended beyond its premises, encompassing various cleaning activities at workplaces, awareness programs at offices and schools, and cleanliness initiatives in public spaces like townships, marketplaces, bus stops, and other communal areas. The mega cleanliness drive served as a testament to NMDC’s dedication to the values championed by Mahatma Gandhi.
