Election Commission to Announce Dates for Assembly Elections in 5 States

TFP Bureau, Raipur; Oct 09, 2023: The Election Commission (EC) is set to unveil the eagerly awaited dates for assembly elections in five states, namely Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Mizoram, in a press conference today. In a significant development, these states are expected to witness voting at various intervals, ranging from the second week of November to the first week of December. Following a pattern similar to the previous elections, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, and Telangana are likely to conduct their elections in a single phase. In contrast, Chhattisgarh may opt for a two-phase polling process. Furthermore, there is speculation that the counting of votes for all these states might be synchronized, enhancing the efficiency and expediency of the electoral process.

Chhattisgarh Prepares for Voting on 90 Seats: The year-end is set to witness elections on 90 seats in Chhattisgarh, where the term of the Legislative Assembly concludes on January 3, 2024. The previous assembly election in November 2018 resulted in a Congress triumph and Bhupesh Baghel taking office as the Chief Minister.

Madhya Pradesh Readies for Upcoming Assembly Elections :

Madhya Pradesh anticipates holding its assembly elections later this year, with all 230 seats up for grabs, likely to be announced in or before November 2023. The current assembly’s term in the state is slated to conclude on January 6, 2024.Recalling the previous assembly election in November 2018, the Congress emerged victorious and formed the government, with Kamal Nath taking the helm. However, in March 2020, 22 Congress MLAs resigned, leading to the BJP’s assumption of power, with Shivraj Singh Chauhan assuming the Chief Minister’s position.

Rajasthan’s Term Nearing its Conclusion : The assembly’s term in Rajasthan is drawing to a close on January 14, 2024, with the state’s 200 seats likely to go to the polls in November 2023. In the 2018 elections, the Congress secured victory and Ashok Gehlot was appointed Chief Minister.

Telangana Braces for Upcoming Assembly Elections:

Telangana, with its assembly term concluding on January 16, 2024, is also gearing up for assembly elections later this year. In December 2018, the state held elections for its 119 seats, leading to the formation of the Telanganarashtra committee government, with Chandrasekhar Rao as the Chief Minister for the second time.

Mizoram Readies for Voting on 40 Seats:

At the close of this year, Mizoram is set to conduct elections for its 40 seats, with the term of the Mizoram Assembly ending on December 17, 2023. In the previous assembly election held in November 2018, the Mizo National Front emerged victorious and Zoramthanga assumed the Chief Minister’s role.
