TFP Bureau Report; Oct 17, 2023:
Introduction : Mother Durga, a revered figure in Hindu religion, has been the object of devotion for centuries. While her worship is a daily practice for many devotees, certain festivals hold a distinct significance, offering the opportunity to have wishes fulfilled. Navratri, celebrated four times a year according to scriptures, is predominantly observed during Chaitra and Shardiya Navratri. In 2023, Shardiya Navratri commenced on Sunday, October 15, and will extend until October 23.
First Day : Worship of Maa Shailputri –
On the first day of Navratri, devotees venerate Maa Shailputri, the daughter of the mountain king Himalaya. This day’s rituals commence with the installation of a Kalash, a ceremonial pot, followed by a bath, worship, and a fasting pledge. By reciting the Durga Saptashati and offering ghee, fragrant incense, and pure food, devotees seek blessings for good health.
Second Day : Worship of Maa Brahmacharini –
The second day is dedicated to Maa Brahmacharini, the form of Mata Rani who undertook penance and meditation to win Lord Shankar as her husband. Devotees seek the blessing of a long and fulfilling life by offering sugar.
Third Day : Worship of Mother Chandraghanta –
On the third day, devotees worship Mother Chandraghanta, named for the crescent moon adorning her forehead. Offerings of fruits and milk-based items to the Goddess are believed to attract her blessings.
Additional Blessings for Partial Fasting: For those unable to fast during the entire nine days of Navratri, observing a fast on Prathami, Panchami, and Maha Ashtami is considered virtuous and equivalent to fasting for the entire duration. This practice ensures the continuous presence of the Mother’s blessings.
