Coal Secretary Unveils “Provisional Coal Statistics 2022-23” Statistical Publication

  • Single Access Point for Crucial Data in the Coal and Lignite Sector

TFP Bureau, New Delhi; Oct 18, 2023: Shri Amrit Lal Meena, Secretary of the Ministry of Coal, officially unveiled the statistical publication titled ‘Provisional Coal Statistics for 2022-23’ on Tuesday. The release took place in the presence of Shri M. Nagaraju, Additional Secretary, Ms. Vismita Tej, Additional Secretary, Ms. Santosh, DDG, and other senior officials from the Ministry. This annual publication, meticulously prepared by the Coal Controller Organization (CCO), caters to the data requirements of researchers, policymakers, and various stakeholders.

Coal continues to be an indispensable and pivotal pillar of the Indian economy, serving as a driving force for growth and development. As the primary source of commercial energy in India, coal contributes to half of the nation’s energy consumption and remains the dominant fuel for power generation, thanks to its reliability compared to other renewable energy sources.

Accurate and high-quality statistics pertaining to coal and lignite are crucial for effective data analysis and informed decision-making. ‘Provisional Coal Statistics 2022-23’ serves as a centralized platform that consolidates essential data related to the coal and lignite sector for the year 2022-23. This offers comprehensive and detailed information on various aspects, including coal reserves, production, coal production and productivity, pit-head closing stock, performance of captive blocks and commercial blocks, dispatches, import and export data, coal washeries, Royalty, DMF (District Mineral Foundation), NMET (National Mineral Exploration Trust), and more.

It provides valuable insights into the dynamic landscape of the Coal and Lignite sector, empowering stakeholders to make informed decisions based on reliable data.
