ED Unearths ₹7 Crore Cash Stash in Ongoing Operation in Durg-Bhilai Region
TFP Bureau, Durg; Nov 3, 2023: In a significant development, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) continues its probing operation in the Durg-Bhilai region, unearthing an astounding ₹7 crore in cash as of the latest discovery. The investigation took an unexpected turn when a cash seizure, initially believed to be ₹5 crore, has now swelled to an astonishing ₹7 crore, revealing layers of intrigue.
The ED’s relentless pursuit unfolded when the team apprehended the driver, Asim Das, also known as Bappa Bengali, a resident of Housing Board, Bhilai. The arrest transpired in the vicinity of Triten Hotel, Raipur, where Asim Das was preparing to return to Bhilai with a substantial sum of cash concealed within a car bearing registration number CG-12 AR-6300.
Approximately ₹3 crore was discovered within a bag hidden within the car parked at the hotel. Upon apprehending the accused driver, Asim Das, the ED embarked on an extensive search, further revealing an additional ₹2 crore concealed within his belongings at a hotel room.
Subsequent investigations exposed a labyrinthine trail, as the accused driver Asim Das had dispatched a bag laden with currency to his Housing Board Colony residence in Bhilai through his 14-year-old son, Pritam Das. However, by the time the ED team reached the Housing Board Industrial Area, the family had fled, and it was evident that some cash bags had gone missing.
Sources indicate that Asim Das may have had an estimated ₹10 crore at his disposal, with the ED securing ₹7 crore 36 lakh. The whereabouts of the remaining ₹3.5 crore remain under scrutiny. When the ED detained Asim in the Raipur hotel parking lot, the investigation led to the discovery of ₹3 crore, consisting of bundles of ₹500 notes, contained within two plastic bags inside the car.
