General Holiday and Paid Leave Ensured for Voters in Chhattisgarh Ahead of Second Phase Elections

TFP Bureau, Raipur; Nov 15, 2023: In preparation for the second phase of the Assembly General Election-2023 in Chhattisgarh on November 17, a general holiday has been officially declared in the 70 assembly constituencies concerned. This announcement, made by the Chhattisgarh General Administration Department, extends to all government offices and institutions, ensuring that citizens have the opportunity to exercise their democratic right without hindrance.

In addition to the general holiday, private institutions, industrial, and commercial establishments have been directed to grant paid leave to their officers and employees, aligning with the Election Commission’s guidelines. The Labor Department, in compliance with the Commission’s instructions, has issued an order under Section 135 (b) of the Public Representation Act 151, mandating paid leave for employees on polling day.

The order extends beyond Chhattisgarh’s borders, recognizing the voting dates in neighboring states such as Madhya Pradesh and Telangana. Employees working in private or public establishments, shops, industrial undertakings, or businesses in Chhattisgarh, who are voters of Raipur these neighboring states, have also been granted a paid holiday on the polling day of their respective home states.

For factories operating seven days a week, the order specifies a two-hour holiday for first and second shift workers on voting day. Continuous process industries are instructed to grant a two-hour holiday to their workers. The order emphasizes providing workers with the flexibility to vote out of turn, ensuring that all employees, including daily wage earners or casual workers, can exercise their voting rights.
