Democratic Triumph: Chhattisgarh Records 75.08% Voter Turnout in Phase-II Election, Vibrant Participation in Madhya Pradesh
TFP Bureau Report, November 18, 2023: After the resounding success of Phase-I elections in Chhattisgarh and Mizoram, the celebration of democracy continued with fervor in Phase-II elections conducted in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. Voters from diverse backgrounds showcased enthusiastic participation, reflecting the vibrant spirit of democracy. The states, known for their vibrant tribal population, experienced active involvement from Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG). The Election Commission’s (ECI) special efforts to ensure PVTG participation proved fruitful.
High Voter Turnout in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh Elections
In the ongoing democratic spectacle, Chhattisgarh witnessed an impressive 75.08% voter turnout, highlighting citizens’ active involvement. In Madhya Pradesh, a notable tentative figure of 71.11% turnout was reported by 5 PM, expected to rise as comprehensive reports are compiled. The robust engagement underscores the vibrancy of the democratic process.
Raipur North Creates History with All-Women Managed Polling Booths
In a historic achievement, Raipur North Assembly Constituency in Chhattisgarh became the first constituency in the country to have all polling booths staffed and managed exclusively by women polling personnel. This groundbreaking initiative aimed at providing a more inclusive and secure environment for voters, particularly women and the third gender.
PVTG Communities and Tribal Theme Stations
The PVTG communities, including Kamar, Bhunjia, Baiga, Pahadi Korwa, Abujhmadia, and Birhor in Chhattisgarh, as well as Sahariya, Bhariya, and Baiga in Madhya Pradesh, showcased significant enthusiasm in exercising their franchise. With 100% enrolment achieved among these communities, polling stations themed around tribal life aimed to create a welcoming atmosphere for their participation.
Remote Polling Stations and 100% Voter Turnout
In a remarkable example of commitment to democracy, 11 polling booths were set up in Bharatpur-Sonhat Assembly Constituency in Chhattisgarh, where the number of registered voters was less than 100. Sheradand, with only 5 voters, exemplifies the Commission’s dedication to ensuring access to polling stations even in remote and challenging terrains.
Commission’s Commitment to Inclusive Elections
The Election Commission, led by Chief Election Commissioner Shri Rajiv Kumar, along with ECs Shri Anup Chandra Pandey and Shri Arun Goel, upheld its commitment to free, fair, inclusive, and accessible voting. A total of 7.23 crore voters in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh experienced a meticulously monitored electoral process.
Empowering Women and Model Polling Stations
To encourage broader participation, the Commission set up approximately 5000 all-women managed polling stations, around 200 PwD-managed polling stations, and around 15000 model polling stations in Madhya Pradesh. In Phase-II of Chhattisgarh elections, around 700 all-women managed polling stations, around 70 PwD-managed polling stations, and around 350 model polling stations were established.
Young and Elderly Voters Join the Celebration
Young voters, comprising 27.2% in Chhattisgarh and 29.3% in Madhya Pradesh, and elderly voters, with 10.5% in Chhattisgarh and 12.4% in Madhya Pradesh (above 60 years), actively participated in the electoral process. The introduction of home voting for those above 80 years and PwD voters demonstrated the Commission’s dedication to inclusivity.
As the Phase-II elections concluded, the festival of democracy continued to resonate with the people, showcasing the resilience of the electoral process and the commitment to inclusive representation.
