BALCO’s Visionary Initiatives Illuminate the Path to a Brighter Future for Rural Children

Understanding the pivotal role that early childhood plays in shaping a child’s future, BALCO actively contributes to the holistic development of the youngest members of its communities.
Transformative Nutrition Initiatives: Project Arogya
Nutrition forms the bedrock of a child’s health and well-being. Under Project Arogya, BALCO undertakes various mother and child healthcare interventions, focusing on raising awareness about the significance of nutrition. Sessions on caregiving and preparation of nutritious recipes, utilizing the government’s Take Home Ration (THR) program, have significantly improved the health of over 270 children in FY23. Savitri, a beneficiary, expressed gratitude for the nutritional guidance that positively impacted her 19-month-old son, Shresth.
Menstrual Health and Hygiene: Project Nayi Kiran
BALCO actively promotes menstrual health and hygiene among adolescent girls in rural communities through Project Nayi Kiran. By dispelling myths and taboos and encouraging sustainable hygiene practices, the initiative has sensitized over 48,000 people in Chhattisgarh. This endeavor has fostered a more open conversation around menstruation, empowering girls like Harshita from Azad Nagar village.
Education Enrichment Initiatives: Nand Ghars and Project Connect
BALCO recognizes the significance of early education and supports 58 Nand Ghars, modern Anganwadi centers, providing a top-tier learning experience. Through Nand Ghars, BALCO has positively impacted over 4000 children, enhancing attendance, learning abilities, and school readiness.
For high school students (9th – 12th standards), BALCO’s Project Connect focuses on improving the learning environment in government schools. This includes classroom learning, teacher training, and career counseling services, benefitting over 1200 students directly.
Ms. Rini Dubey, Principal of Government Higher Secondary School, Godhi, commended BALCO’s initiatives, stating, “BALCO’s initiatives provide invaluable learning and preparation opportunities for our students, ensuring they are well-equipped for upcoming exams.”
Holistic Learning and Personality Development Initiatives
BALCO goes beyond academic support, emphasizing a holistic learning approach. Annual summer camps offer diverse activities such as music, singing, Zumba, pottery, and painting. English-speaking classes, specialized training sessions, and plantation activities contribute to personality development.
Sports and Physical Fitness
BALCO distributes sports kits in communities, promoting a love for sports and physical fitness among children.
