Major Blaze Erupts in Raipur IAS Officer’s Residence After Electric Vehicle Charging Mishap

TFP Bureau, Raipur; Nov 22, 2023:  A significant fire incident unfolded in the Officers Colony of Raipur as a Tata Nexon EV car owned by IAS officer Sudhakar Khalkho caught fire during charging, resulting in a massive blaze that consumed multiple vehicles and household equipment.

The incident, which occurred in the Ganj police station area, saw a sudden explosion in the Tata Nexon EV car while it was being charged, leading to a rapid escalation of flames. The fire swiftly engulfed an Innova parked on the premises, two other four-wheelers, including one electric vehicle, and an air conditioning unit within the residence.

IAS officer Sudhakar Khalkho, who is currently serving as an observer during Telangana elections, was away from home when the incident transpired. His family had left for the market after initiating the car charging process, and the explosion occurred in their absence.

Upon receiving information about the fire, the local fire brigade promptly arrived at the scene, successfully bringing the blaze under control. Ganj police station in-charge Ashish Yadav confirmed that the situation was contained, stating, “The family members had gone to the market after putting the car on charge. During this time, a blast occurred. The fire brigade team reached the spot and brought the fire under control.”

The incident has raised concerns about the safety of electric vehicles during charging, prompting a need for thorough investigations into the circumstances surrounding the Tata Nexon EV explosion. Authorities are expected to scrutinize the incident to ensure the safety protocols associated with electric vehicle charging are robust and adequate.
