Republic Day Celebrations to Uphold Dignity Amidst Covid-19 Precautions

Parades will only be held at district headquarters, featuring contingents of available Army, Police, Municipal Army, and Jail Guard

TFP Bureau, Raipur; January 02, 2024: The General Administration Department has issued instructions for the organized celebration of Republic Day on January 26, emphasizing the need for special precautions in the context of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

The focal point of the Republic Day celebration will be the Police Parade Ground in the capital, Raipur, where Governor Shri Vishwabhushan Harichandan is scheduled to hoist the flag and take the parade salute at 9 am. A letter from the General Administration Department has been circulated to all departments, Divisional Commissioners, Collectors, and Chief Executive Officers of District Panchayats, outlining specific Covid-19 precautions, including mask-wearing and social distancing, to be strictly adhered to during the celebrations. The instructions also include organizing programs and cultural events for school children, following the tradition of previous years.

The scheduled program involves the Governor addressing the state-level event post-flag hoisting and parade salute. Additionally, various departments and institutions will display tableaux, and a medal award ceremony will take place. The venue will witness the release of colorful balloons, and contingents from various armed forces will participate in the state-level parade, including CRPF, CISF, DF, Jail Force, Home Guard, STF Commando, BSF, ITBT, and others.

In district headquarters, government-designated ministers will hoist the flag, take the parade salute, and read out the Chief Minister’s message. The General Administration Department clarified that parades will only be held at district headquarters, featuring contingents of available Army, Police, Municipal Army, and Jail Guard. The emphasis is on organizing dignified and interesting programs at these functions.

At the District Panchayat or Tehsil level, the flag will be hoisted by the District Panchayat President, and in Municipalities/Nagar Panchayats whose headquarters are not at the block headquarters, the flag will be hoisted by the President of the Municipality/Nagar Panchayat. Singing the national anthem collectively after flag hoisting has been instructed at Panchayat headquarters by the Sarpanch and in significant villages by the village head.

Main functions in the state capital Raipur and other district headquarters are scheduled to commence from 9 am. To facilitate participation in the main district function, government offices in Raipur and other district headquarters are instructed to complete their flag hoisting programs before 9 am. The national anthem will be collectively sung by department and office heads during their flag hoisting programs. Government and public buildings will witness flag hoisting, and lights will be illuminated on the night of January 26 in commemoration of Republic Day.
