Secretary to Chief Minister, Shri P. Dayanand Assumes Role as 12th Chairman of Chhattisgarh State Power Company

Chairman sought information about new recruitments and vacant posts, emphasizing the need for an enhanced action plan in the electricity sector

TFP Bureau, Raipur; January 6, 2024: Shri P. Dayanand, Secretary to the Chief Minister, has officially taken charge as the 12th Chairman of the Chhattisgarh State Power Company. Immediately upon assuming his new role, Shri Dayanand conducted a comprehensive meeting with top officials of the power company. This meeting, held at the Raipur headquarters, delved into the current status of electricity production, transmission, and distribution across the state.

During the three-hour-long meeting, Shri Dayanand acquired detailed insights into the achievements and structure of the power company from managing directors of various sectors. Special Secretary of the Energy Department, Shri Sunil Kumar Jain, was also present during this significant gathering.

Mr. Manoj Khare, Managing Director of Distribution and Transmission Company, reported that the state ensures uninterrupted electricity supply to 62 lakh consumers round the clock. Despite a peak demand reaching 6157 MW, the company successfully maintained a seamless supply. He also highlighted the improved financial condition of the distribution company.

Providing insights into the generation aspect, Mr. S.K. Katiyar, Managing Director of the Generation Company, informed that the total capacity of generation companies in the state stands at 2978.7 MW. He emphasized that the Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Power Plant and Atal Bihari Vajpayee Power Plant are operating at full capacity, resulting in reduced production costs.

Chairman Shri P. Dayanand sought information about new recruitments and vacant posts, emphasizing the need for an enhanced action plan in the electricity sector. He expressed contentment with the performance of over 87 percent ash utilization from power plants and discussed strategies for further improvement. Executive directors and chief engineers from the three companies attended the meeting.

Following the meeting, Shri P. Dayanand received congratulations from power companies, officers, employees, and various labor unions at Vidyut Seva Bhawan. In his response, he outlined his commitment to positioning Chhattisgarh as a national leader in both beautification and power development, aligning with the state government’s vision. Shri P. Dayanand, an Indian Administrative Service officer from the 2006 batch, concurrently serves as Secretary of Energy, Mineral Resources, Public Relations, Aviation, and Commerce and Industry Departments in addition to his role as Secretary to the Chief Minister. His extensive administrative experience includes serving as Collector in various districts and contributing significantly to tribal housing and education initiatives.
