Prime Minister to Unveil ‘Halbi Balbodhini’ Book on Republic Day

National Education Policy-driven initiative aids language learning for young children

TFP Bureau, Raipur, January 25, 2024: On the occasion of Republic Day, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is set to unveil the book ‘Halbi Balbodhini.’ Aligned with the National New Education Policy 2020 and National Curriculum Framework 2022, this book aims to provide education in mother tongue, home language, and regional language to children aged three to eight.

Children in tribal-dominated areas often face challenges in studies, and ‘Halbi Balbodhini’ has been designed to cater to their cognitive level and common spoken language.

Highlights of ‘Halbi Balbodhini’:

1. Includes the mother tongue Halba, Hindi, and English.
2. Covers alphabet, barakhadi, counting through pictures and poems.
3. Tailored for children in tribal regions of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Orissa, and Assam.
4. Developed under the guidance of the Ministry of Education, Government of India.
5. Created by Professor Shailendra Mohan, Director of the Institute of Indian Languages, Mysore, and Dr. Vinay Patnaik, Education Expert and Chief Advisor of the National Education Policy 2020.
6. Features songs, poems, stories, conversations, and pictures for effective language introduction, alphabet learning, and reading and writing practice.

The Government of India plans to distribute ‘Halbi Balbodhini’ to state governments in tribal areas for the upcoming academic session 2024-25. The book’s creation was a collaborative effort involving education experts, tribal researchers, and the support of various tribal organizations. Krishnapal Rana, Damesai Baghel, and Hemlata Baghel, among others, played key roles in the development of this language teaching resource. The authors were honored with certificates by the Indian Institute of Languages, Ministry of Education, Government of India, in Bhubaneswar for their contribution to ‘Halbi Balbodhini.’
