TFP Bureau, Raipur; January 26, 2024: Justice Shri T.P. Sharma, Chief Lokayukta of Chhattisgarh, underscored the pivotal role of voters in fortifying democracy during the state-level celebration of the 14th National Voters’ Day. The event, held at Vivekananda Auditorium of Indira Gandhi Agricultural College in Raipur, featured a photo exhibition aimed at fostering awareness on the judicious exercise of voting rights.
Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Justice Shri T.P. Sharma highlighted the importance of voters in the continuous strengthening and success of democracy. He emphasized that exercising the right to vote is not only a privilege but also a duty for citizens. The need, he expressed, is for increased awareness about voting in both rural and urban areas. Justice Sharma urged individuals to comprehend the significance of their democratic duty and actively engage in creating awareness among others.
Presiding over the state-level function, Dr. Girish Chandel, Vice Chancellor of Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, commended the growing awareness about voting among the youth. He expressed optimism that the heightened awareness would contribute to the robustness of democracy in the country. Dr. Chandel noted the continuous improvement in transparency within the election process, signifying an increasing role for ordinary voters. As part of the event, the chief guest administered the voter awareness oath to all attendees.
Photo Exhibition and Awards:
Justice Shri T.P. Sharma and Dr. Girish Chandel inaugurated a one-day photo exhibition showcasing voter awareness at the Agricultural College campus. The exhibition displayed photographs capturing various voter awareness campaigns conducted across the state.
During the state-level function, officers and employees who made significant contributions to election work were honored. The chief guest presented awards to individuals, including the Collector and District Election Officers of Surajpur, Gariaband, Kanker, and Dhamtari, recognizing their outstanding efforts. Special awards were also conferred for excellence in electoral work, with individuals from Raigarh, Mungeli, Surajpur, Kabirdham, and other districts receiving accolades.
Additionally, two state-level icons were honored for their service to voters and voter awareness. The event also marked the distribution of voter identity cards to new voters, symbolizing the ongoing commitment to enhancing civic engagement and awareness in the democratic process.
