Indian Railways Achieves Record Capital Expenditure Utilization in First 9 Months of FY 2023-24

Comparing the figures with the same period in December 2022, the capital expenditure utilization was Rs. 1,46,248.73 Crores

TFP Bureau, New Delhi, January 30, 2024: Indian Railways has marked a historic achievement by achieving the highest-ever capital expenditure utilization of approximately 75% during the first nine months of the current financial year, spanning from April 1, 2023, to December 31, 2023. This remarkable feat signifies a robust financial management strategy, with the Railways having expended Rs. 1,95,929.97 Crores, which constitutes around 75% of the total allocated capital expenditure of Rs. 2.62 lakh crores for the entire financial year.

Comparing the figures with the same period in December 2022, the capital expenditure utilization was Rs. 1,46,248.73 Crores. This year’s utilization represents an impressive increase of approximately 33% compared to the corresponding period in the previous fiscal year.

The substantial investment has been directed towards diverse infrastructure projects, including the development of new rail lines, doubling existing lines, converting gauges, and enhancing passenger amenities. Notably, a significant portion of the funds has been allocated to safety-related initiatives, underscoring the Railways’ unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety of passengers.

This record-breaking capital expenditure utilization reflects Indian Railways’ commitment to modernization, expansion, and safety enhancement, contributing to the overall growth and efficiency of the railway network. The successful utilization of funds demonstrates a strategic approach to infrastructure development, emphasizing the importance of timely and efficient financial management in the nation’s railway sector.
