The renewal initiative, which commenced on January 25 and will continue until February 15, aims to update all 77 lakh ration cards currently in circulation under the public distribution system in the state.

As of January 29, the Food Department has received renewal applications from 14 lakh beneficiaries who have utilized the user-friendly mobile app. This app, designed by the Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Protection Department, is available for download on the Play Store, providing a seamless process for submitting renewal applications electronically. The mobile app allows users to navigate the renewal process directly from their smartphones, showcasing the increasing adoption of technology for administrative procedures.

The online renewal initiative is part of the state’s efforts to streamline the renewal process, making it more accessible and efficient. Notably, beneficiaries who may not have Android mobiles or face connectivity challenges can still avail themselves of the renewal process by submitting electronic applications through the fair price shop at the local level. This dual approach ensures inclusivity and broad participation in the renewal process, aligning with the state’s commitment to leveraging technology for the welfare of its citizens.
