TFP Bureau, Raipur; February 6, 2024: Senior Congress leader and former minister Amarjeet Bhagat held a press conference on Monday at Rajiv Bhawan, addressing the media on alleged harassment by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Bhagat accused the BJP of targeting opposition leaders through central agencies, creating a political conspiracy to tarnish their image.
During the press conference, Bhagat highlighted the continuous actions by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Income Tax (IT) departments in Chhattisgarh during the five-year Congress government. He claimed that the central government orchestrated fake proceedings to discredit the then Congress government.
Bhagat expressed concerns over the harassment faced by opposition leaders across the country, citing instances like an IT raid at his residence. He drew parallels with the situation in Jharkhand, where Chief Minister Hemant Soren resigned under pressure and faced imprisonment.
The former minister raised suspicion about the timing of the IT raid on his house coinciding with Hemant Soren’s resignation, labeling it as a deliberate conspiracy. He asserted that this was an attempt to defame tribal leadership and convey a misleading message that non-BJP leaders were causing trouble nationwide.
Bhagat claimed mental harassment during the IT proceedings, emphasizing that nothing undeclared was found at his house. He defended the construction of a temple with public cooperation, challenging the BJP’s newfound interest in its accountability.
Alleging threats to himself and his family, Bhagat accused IT officials of harassment for four days. He reiterated his demand for a tribal Chief Minister and asserted that BJP was targeting those advocating for tribal representation.
Amidst the allegations, Bhagat challenged the BJP to take strict action if any wrongdoing on his part is proven, while denouncing the party’s tactics as character assassination.
Sushil Anand Shukla, Chairman of Congress Communication Department, Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee, concluded the press conference.
