PM Modi to Dedicate Stage-I of NTPC’s Lara Super Thermal Power Station

Foundation Stone for Stage-II to Be Laid in Raigarh, Chhattisgarh

TFP Bureau, New Delhi; February 23, 2024: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is set to dedicate Stage-I (2×800 MW) of NTPC’s Lara Super Thermal Power Station and lay the foundation stone for Stage-II (2×800 MW) of the same project in Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh. The ceremony will be conducted through video-conferencing on February 24, 2024.

While Stage-I of the station has been built with an investment of approximately Rs. 15,800 crores, Stage-II will be constructed on the available land of Stage-I, eliminating the need for additional land. Stage-II is estimated to entail an investment of Rs. 15,530 crores.

Coal for this pit-head power station/project will be supplied from NTPC’s Talaipalli Coal block through the Merry-Go-Round (MGR) system, ensuring the country with a supply of low-cost electricity with 24×7 availability.

Equipped with highly-efficient Super Critical technology (for Stage-I) and Ultra Super Critical technology (for Stage-II), all units will ensure relatively less Specific Coal Consumption and Carbon-Dioxide emissions.

While 50% of the power from both Stage-I & II is allocated to the state of Chhattisgarh, the project will significantly improve the power scenario in several other states, including Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa, Daman & Diu, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

Moreover, the installation of this project is creating direct and indirect employment opportunities in the region. Additionally, various Community Development initiatives are being undertaken by NTPC in nearby areas, focusing on education, drinking water, sanitation, health, and women’s empowerment.

NTPC delegates flag off first Coal Rake dispatch from NTPC Talaipalli to NTPC Lara Super Thermal Power Project

In a related development, NTPC Ltd. dispatched its first Coal Rake from NTPC Talaipalli Coal Mine to NTPC Lara Super Thermal Power Project in Chhattisgarh. The commencement of rake loading marks a significant step towards meeting the coal requirements of the 1600 MW NTPC Lara project. Shri Gurdeep Singh, CMD, and Shri Chandan Kumar Mondol, Director (Commercial) NTPC, along with other officials, flagged off the first Coal Rake dispatch from NTPC Talaipalli to NTPC Lara Super Thermal Power Project.
