Congress Launches Statewide Protest Against Soaring Inflation

State President Leads Unique Protest in Shastri Bazaar

TFP Bureau, Raipur, March 3, 2024 – The Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee staged a widespread protest across all districts of the state, denouncing the alarming inflation levels gripping the nation. State Congress President, Deepak Baij, spearheaded the protest by engaging with citizens and vegetable vendors at Shastri Bazaar in the capital city.

During his interaction with the public, Baij not only empathized with their plight but also actively participated in purchasing vegetables, including ginger, garlic, peas, gram, carrot, and tomato. In a symbolic gesture, Congress members, under the leadership of District Congress Committees, joined the protest by buying groceries and vegetables from markets across the state.

Addressing the gathering, State Congress President Deepak Baij criticized the Modi government’s failure to curb inflation despite its promises. He highlighted the unprecedented rise in prices, citing examples such as edible oil and pulses reaching Rs 200 per kilogram, a steep increase from the previous Rs 70 and Rs 60 respectively. Additionally, he condemned the imposition of 5 percent GST on essential commodities, exacerbating the financial burden on the common man.

Baij further lamented the surge in prices of essential items like gas cylinders, petrol, and diesel, which have significantly impacted household budgets. Despite a decrease in international crude oil prices, consumers have yet to witness any relief, he noted.

Assuring continued advocacy on behalf of the people, Baij affirmed Congress’s commitment to addressing the issue of inflation through ongoing protests and future initiatives. Sushil Anand Shukla, Chairman of the Congress Communication Department, Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee, reiterated the party’s determination to champion the cause of the public and amplify their concerns against rising inflation.
