TFP Bureau, Raipur; March 03, 2024: In a concerted effort to combat tax evasion, Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai and Finance Minister OP Choudhary have issued strict directives, resulting in intensified actions against tax evaders in Chhattisgarh. In just one week, the GST department has undertaken decisive measures, leading to the collection of Rs 8 crore in taxes.
Under the vigilant supervision of the State GST team and the e-way bill checking team, numerous instances of tax evasion have been identified and addressed. A recent operation on March 1 by the Chhattisgarh State GST’s e-way bill investigation team uncovered an illegal gutkha factory clandestinely operating in Chandrakhuri, Durg district.
Despite attempts by the suspected vehicle driver to evade scrutiny by burning packing material to conceal their identity, the investigation team persevered and successfully located the illicit gutkha production facility. Substantial evidence, including wrappers from reputed gutkha brands, raw materials, and a mixer machine used in gutkha manufacturing, was seized from the premises operated under the guise of Komal Foods.
Further investigations have revealed links to another factory belonging to the same businessman in Rajnandgaon, implicating them in the illegal gutkha production chain. Finance and GST Minister OP Choudhary’s unwavering commitment to propelling Chhattisgarh towards development, with a target of reaching a GDP of Rs 10 lakh crore in the next five years, underscores the government’s determination to tackle tax evasion comprehensively.
In addition to the raid on the gutkha factory, the GST department conducted investigations into three other businesses this week, resulting in the recovery of approximately Rs 8 crore in taxes. These investigations, spurred by anomalies flagged by iTools, revealed discrepancies in tax declarations and input tax credit claims over the past three years, signaling a concerted effort to ensure compliance and curb tax evasion in the state.
