TFP Bureau New Delhi; March 4, 2024: The Union Ministry of Home Affairs recently unveiled three videos showcasing the Modi government’s strides in tackling the scourge of drug trafficking. Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, took to social media platforms to underscore the government’s resolute stance against narco-trade and its consequential impact on law enforcement.

Shri Shah highlighted,

“The Modi government’s ruthless approach towards narco-trade has borne effective results. The upshot of this approach is the drastic rise in the number of arrests and seizures.”

Under the coordinated efforts of various agencies and governments, guided by PM Modi’s leadership, the nation has witnessed a significant surge in both drug seizures and the registration of cases related to drug offenses.

During the period from 2006 to 2013, the number of cases registered stood at 1257, a figure that escalated threefold to 3755 during 2014-2023. Similarly, arrests surged from 1363 in the earlier period to 5745 under the Modi government. Notably, the quantity of seized drugs doubled to 3.95 lakh kgs, and the value of seized drugs skyrocketed to Rs. 22,000 crore during the same period.

Furthermore, anti-narcotics agencies successfully destroyed 12 lakh kgs of drugs, worth Rs. 12,000 crores, reflecting the government’s relentless pursuit of a drug-free India. The National Control Bureau (NCB), until June 2023, conducted financial investigations in 23 cases, leading to the freezing of assets worth ₹74,75,00,531.

In alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a drug-free India, the government fortified the NCORD mechanism in 2019, fostering greater cohesion and synergy among Central and State drug law enforcement agencies.

As the nation marches steadfastly towards realizing the vision of a Drugs Free Bharat, the Modi government’s resolute efforts underscore its commitment to safeguarding public health and upholding the rule of law.
