Congress Urges Judicial Inquiry into Koylibera Naxal Encounter

Delegation Led by State Congress President Presents Memorandum to Governor

TFP Bureau, Raipur; March 7, 2024: The Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee, spearheaded by State Congress President Deepak Baij, has called for a comprehensive judicial inquiry, overseen by a sitting High Court judge, into the recent police-Naxal encounter in the Koyalibera police station area of Kanker district.

In a memorandum submitted to the Governor, the Congress delegation highlighted the grave concerns raised by the families and villagers regarding the authenticity of the encounter, questioning the identities of those purportedly killed. The families of the deceased individuals – Anil Hidko, Rameshwar Negi, and Suresh Teta – vehemently refute claims of their involvement with Naxal activities, presenting evidence such as bank passbooks, Aadhar cards, and other official documents to support their assertions.

According to the villagers, the deceased trio had ventured into the forest to procure ropes for the upcoming Tendu leaf harvesting season, a customary practice during this time of the year. Dismissing allegations of their involvement with Naxalites, the families assert that their loved ones were unjustly targeted and branded as insurgents.

The gravity of these allegations necessitates a thorough and impartial investigation, underscoring the imperative for a high-level probe into the incident. The Congress Party advocates for the involvement of a sitting High Court judge to oversee the investigation process, ensuring transparency and accountability in the pursuit of justice.

The delegation, comprising prominent Congress leaders including former State President Dhanendra Sahu and former Minister Jaisingh Aggarwal, emphasized the urgency of addressing the grievances of the affected families and upholding the principles of justice and equity.

This call for a judicial inquiry underscores the commitment of the Congress Party to safeguarding the rights and dignity of all citizens, ensuring that no individual is unjustly deprived of their fundamental liberties.
