TFP Bureau, Raipur; March 7, 2024: Today, the Congress party staged protests outside State Bank branches in every district of Chhattisgarh, condemning what they termed as the BJP’s electoral bond scam and the alleged complicity of the State Bank of India in covering it up.
The demonstrations come in the wake of the Supreme Court’s recent decision to nullify the BJP’s electoral bond scheme, deeming it unconstitutional. The apex court had instructed political parties to disclose all donations received through the electoral bond system. Furthermore, it mandated that the State Bank of India (SBI) must make public all relevant information regarding electoral donations before March 6, 2024, ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
However, Congress alleges that the BJP government, along with Prime Minister Modi, exerted pressure on the State Bank of India to withhold this crucial information. In response, the SBI filed an application before the Supreme Court, requesting an extension until June 30 to disclose the details.
Protests unfolded in various parts of Chhattisgarh, including Raipur city, Balodabazar, Durg, Bhilai, Rajnandgaon, Jagdalpur, and many more, encompassing all districts and blocks where Congress has a presence. The demonstrations aimed to draw attention to what Congress sees as a grave threat to transparency and the democratic process in the country.
