BALCO Celebrates Women’s Contributions on International Women’s Day 2024

Women employees share their experiences, breaking barriers in the metal and mining industry

TFP Bureau, Korba; March 9, 2024: Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO), a leading aluminium producer and a Vedanta Aluminium unit, commemorates International Women’s Day by spotlighting the remarkable contributions of its women workforce in the traditionally male-dominated metal and mining industry.

Himanshi Gupta, a recent graduate trainee, challenges stereotypes by excelling in the critical potlines function at BALCO. Reflecting on her journey, she shares,

“The misconception of manufacturing as a male-dominated field persists, but BALCO presents a different reality. As I work alongside several female colleagues, I take pride in dispelling myths and inspiring young girls curious about careers in manufacturing.”

Priti Shikha Nanda, a Metallurgy and Materials Engineer, underscores her pivotal role in ensuring product quality and innovation.

“At BALCO, my tasks include microscopic examinations and quality assessments, contributing to refinements in our standard operating procedures,” she explains, emphasizing the satisfaction derived from her work’s impact on product quality.

Tapaswini Priyadarshini, a Mining Engineer at BALCO’s Chotia Mines, finds fulfillment in her role, emphasizing the company’s supportive work culture.

“Being part of a company that values diversity and creates opportunities for women to thrive in traditionally male-dominated fields is inspiring,” she shares.

Anjali Pawar, Head of Quality Assurance, reflects on her fifteen-year journey at BALCO, witnessing progress in processes and standards.

“Leading the journey toward global benchmarks in quality assurance has been rewarding, combining academic knowledge with a sense of purpose,” she remarks.

Suneela MVS, Head of Project Management Officer, serves as a beacon of leadership, overseeing BALCO’s expansion project and mentoring a team of female engineers. “Women professionals in the manufacturing industry have a responsibility to advocate for more women to join,

” she asserts, highlighting the industry’s increasing focus on skill-oriented roles and technological integration.
