TFP Bureau, Raipur, March 10, 2024: In a scathing attack on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CPCC) senior spokesperson Dhananjay Singh Thakur accused the State Bank of India (SBI) of reluctance in disclosing information regarding the alleged illegal collection of funds by the BJP through electoral bonds. Thakur questioned the SBI’s delay in revealing the names of donors, citing the bank’s extensive digital infrastructure. He criticized the bank’s apparent non-compliance with the Supreme Court’s directives, alleging complicity in concealing the BJP’s purported illicit earnings.
Highlighting the BJP’s controversial financial transactions, Thakur raised concerns over the origins of the funds channeled through electoral bonds, suggesting possible links to dubious activities such as smuggling, gambling, and fake NGOs. He expressed skepticism over the integrity of the electoral bond system, pointing to instances where companies under investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) reportedly donated large sums to the BJP.
Meanwhile, amidst the Mahtari Vandan Yojana controversy, CPCC President and Member of Parliament Deepak Baij criticized the Modi government for allegedly failing to deliver on its promises. Baij accused the government of neglecting thousands of women who were supposed to benefit from the scheme, questioning the discrepancy between the promised and actual amounts deposited into beneficiaries’ accounts. He criticized the administration for imposing stringent conditions, potentially excluding many women from availing the scheme’s benefits.
Baij condemned the government’s purported efforts to compel women to visit government offices, raising concerns about the discontinuation of pensions for eligible beneficiaries under previous schemes. He urged authorities to address the discrepancies and ensure equitable access to welfare programs for all eligible citizens.
The dual criticisms from the CPCC underscore growing opposition scrutiny of the BJP’s financial practices and welfare initiatives, signaling heightened political tensions ahead of upcoming elections.
