TFP Bureau, Raipur; March 15, 2024: Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital, affiliated with Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru Memorial Medical College, marked a significant milestone on Thursday with the inauguration of the Radiation Protection Device Against installed in the state-of-the-art Cathlab of the Cardiology Department at the Advanced Cardiac Institute (ACI), Raipur. The inauguration ceremony was officiated by the esteemed presence of Shri Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, Minister of Public Health and Family Welfare, and Medical Education.
The cutting-edge radiation protection device, a result of HDFC Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, is poised to safeguard the healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, and paramedics, working tirelessly in the Cathlab from the adverse effects of radiation exposure. Present at the inauguration were prominent figures such as Dr. Vishnu Dutt, Director of Medical Education; Dr. Trupti Nagaria, Dean of the Medical College; Dr. S.B.S. Netam, Superintendent; Dr. Smit Srivastava, Head of the Cardiology Department; Dr. M.K. Sahu, Head of the Psychiatry Department, along with other dignitaries and senior officials from HDFC Bank.
Dr. Smit Srivastava, Head of the Cardiology Department, elucidated on the significance of the Radiation Protection Device, emphasizing its role in curbing the spread and scattering of radiation within the Cathlab. Designed and provided by AROH Foundation, the CSR arm of HDFC Bank, the device stands as a crucial safety shield in a modern Cathlab environment. With daily cardiac interventional procedures conducted using X-ray machines, the team’s prolonged exposure to radiation necessitated an advanced protective measure. Agnest, the comprehensive scatter radiation protection system, offers a remarkable 91 percent protection efficacy, strategically maneuvering in tandem with the X-ray machine’s speed and direction.
Addressing the gathering, Health Minister Shri Shyam Bihari Jaiswal lauded the Advanced Cardiac Institute for its swift establishment and expressed solidarity with Dr. Smit Srivastava and his team in their pursuit of excellence. He reassured the commitment of the government to provide the requisite infrastructure and human resources to elevate Medical College Raipur, the hospital, and ACI to global standards.
The inauguration ceremony, held in the Telemedicine Hall, witnessed Health Minister Shri Shyam Bihari Jaiswal felicitating distinguished medical professionals and acknowledging their contributions. Dr. Arvind Neral, President of the Medical Teacher Association, apprised the Health Minister of various demands pertinent to the healthcare sector.
