Chief Election Commissioner Announces Schedule for Lok Sabha Elections 2024

Elections to be Conducted in 7 Phases, First Phase Polling on April 19

TFP Bureau, New Delhi, March 16, 2024: Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar has unveiled the schedule for the highly anticipated Lok Sabha Elections 2024. Addressing the media, he disclosed crucial details regarding the electoral process, highlighting key statistics and dates.

Out of the total 543 Parliamentary Constituencies, 84 are reserved for SCs (Scheduled Castes) and 47 for STs (Scheduled Tribes). The country boasts a staggering 96.8 crore electors, comprising 49.7 crore males and 47.1 crore females. Notably, there are 1.82 crore first-time voters participating in these elections.

Additionally, 88.4 lakh persons with disabilities are enlisted in the voter list, along with 82 lakh voters above the age of 85 years.

The Lok Sabha Elections 2024 will be conducted in 7 phases:

1. Phase 1: Notification on March 20, Polling on April 19, 2024.
2. Phase 2: Notification on March 28, Polling on April 26, 2024.
3. Phase 3: Notification on April 12, Polling on May 7, 2024.
4. Phase 4: Notification on April 18, Polling on May 13, 2024.
5. Phase 5: Notification on April 26, Polling on May 20, 2024.
6. Phase 6: Notification on April 29, Polling on May 25, 2024.
7. Phase 7: Notification on May 7, Polling on June 1, 2024.

In Chhattisgarh, elections will be held in three phases:

  • April 19: Bastar Lok Sabha Constituency.
  • April 26: Kanker, Mahasamund, and Rajnandgaon Lok Sabha Constituencies.
  • May 7: Surguja, Raigarh, Janjgir-Champa, Korba, Bilaspur, Durg, and Raipur Lok Sabha Constituencies.

With the announcement of the election schedule, the model code of conduct has been implemented across the country, marking the commencement of a significant phase in India’s democratic process.
