TFP Bureau, Raipur; March 19, 2024: The Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee has announced its pledge to increase the daily wage of MNREGA workers to Rs 400 if the Congress government comes to power at the Centre. Currently, workers under MNREGA receive approximately Rs 200 per day, which would double under Congress rule.
State Congress spokesperson Dhananjay Singh Thakur emphasized that the party has a strong history of advocating for labor rights. The MNREGA scheme, initiated during the UPA government, has been a cornerstone of Congress’s commitment to providing employment opportunities. In Chhattisgarh, the Congress government had fulfilled its promise of offering 150 days of employment under MNREGA and set a national record by providing over 27 crore labor days during the Covid pandemic.
Thakur further stated that,
the Congress is dedicated to the welfare of workers and will review the anti-labor laws introduced by the Modi government. If elected, the Congress government will ensure a minimum wage of Rs 400 per day nationwide, along with urban employment guarantees.
Additionally, workers will have access to healthcare, including free testing, treatment, and medication. Social security measures will be extended to workers in the unorganized sector, and the contract system for government projects will be abolished. Moreover, laborers employed on contracts in the private sector will also receive social security benefits.
