Defacement of Property Act Enforcement Yields Significant Results

TFP Bureau, Raipur; March 20, 2024: With the onset of the Model Code of Conduct for the upcoming Lok Sabha general elections, authorities in the state have intensified efforts to remove unauthorized wall writings, posters, and banners from public and private properties. As of March 20, a staggering total of 314,674 publicity materials have been eradicated across the state, marking a significant stride in enforcing the Defacement of Property Act.

Swift Action Across Public and Private Domains

According to Mrs. Reena Babasaheb Kangale, Chief Electoral Officer of the state, the rigorous campaign has resulted in the removal of 199,154 items from public properties and 115,520 from private properties. This concerted effort underscores the commitment of district administrations to uphold electoral integrity and maintain aesthetic standards across the state.

Comprehensive Enforcement Measures

A total of 327,210 cases of property defacement were identified by collectors and district election officers statewide. These included 209,045 instances on public property and 118,165 on private property. Notable actions have been taken in various districts, with Durg, Gariaband, Balod, and Surguja leading in the number of cases addressed.

District-wise Removal Efforts

Under the stringent enforcement of the Defacement of Property Act, authorities have tackled 41,788 cases in Durg district, 16,973 in Balod, and 9,876 in Surguja, among others. Additionally, substantial progress has been made in districts like Raigarh, Bilaspur, Mahasamund, and Korba, where thousands of unauthorized materials have been removed to maintain the sanctity of the electoral process.
