TFP Bureau, New Delhi, March 21, 2024: In a dramatic escalation of political tensions, the Indian National Congress has leveled damning accusations against the Prime Minister, alleging a systematic campaign to financially cripple the party ahead of crucial elections. Party leaders, including CPP Chairperson Smt. Sonia Gandhi and Congress President Shri @kharge, have decried what they term as an unprecedented and undemocratic assault on their financial resources.
Electoral Bond Controversy
At the heart of the controversy lies the contentious issue of electoral bonds, recently declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. The Congress alleges that these bonds, while benefiting the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) immensely, have been used as a tool to suppress opposition finances. Moreover, they claim that while the BJP has allegedly deposited thousands of crores of rupees through this scheme, the Congress’s accounts have been frozen, severely limiting its ability to contest elections.
Allegations of Financial Freezing
Echoing these sentiments, Congress President @RahulGandhi has decried the freezing of the party’s bank accounts, lamenting the impact on their electoral activities. He asserts that
while 20% of the electorate supports the Congress, the party now finds itself unable to even purchase railway tickets or place advertisements due to financial restrictions imposed by the government.
Claim of Criminal Conspiracy
Furthermore, @RahulGandhi has gone so far as to label the government’s actions as a criminal conspiracy orchestrated by the Prime Minister himself. The Congress alleges that the punitive measures imposed, including a staggering fine of Rs 200 crore, are designed to stifle dissent and weaken democratic opposition.
Democratic Principles Under Threat
In the wake of these developments, the Congress leadership has sounded a clarion call for the preservation of democratic principles, emphasizing the importance of a level playing field for all political parties. The freezing of the Congress’s bank accounts, they argue, represents a dire threat to the very fabric of India’s democracy.
As the political landscape heats up ahead of crucial elections, the allegations levied by the Congress against the government add fuel to an already incendiary debate over the sanctity of electoral processes and the exercise of power in the world’s largest democracy.
