Rs 15 Lakh Ex-Gratia Approved for Injured Soldiers on Election Duty

Chief Electoral Officer Confirms Compensation Following Naxalite Incident

TFP Bureau, Raipur, March 23, 2024: In accordance with the Election Commission of India’s guidelines, an ex-gratia amount of Rs 15 lakh each has been sanctioned for two soldiers of the Bastar Fighters who sustained injuries in a Naxalite incident while on election duty. Chief Electoral Officer Mrs. Reena Babasaheb Kangale confirmed that the compensation was approved as per the Chhattisgarh State Compensation Rules.

Prior to the first phase of the Lok Sabha Elections-2024, a joint search operation was conducted by the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Bastar Fighters, and CRPF security forces in the border areas of Bijapur, Sukma, and Dantewada of the Bastar Lok Sabha constituency. During this operation on March 22, 2024, two constables of the Bastar Fighters were injured by a pressure IED in the Aranpur police station and Jagargunda police station areas of Sukma, as well as the Gangalur police station area of Bijapur. Following initial treatment in Jagargunda, both constables were airlifted to Raipur for further medical care.

Mrs. Kangale emphasized that in line with Election Commission guidelines, ex-gratia compensation is provided in the event of injury or death to officers, employees, and security personnel engaged in election duties. Accordingly, action has been initiated to approve ex-gratia compensation payments of Rs 15 lakh each to the two injured soldiers of the Bastar Fighters in Dantewada district, South Bastar, following the Naxalite incident during election duty.
