Election Commission Sets Voting Timings; Bans Exit Polls Ahead of Lok Sabha Elections 2024

Voting Schedule Announced for Rajnandgaon, Mahasamund, and Kanker Constituencies

TFP Bureau, Raipur, March 29, 2024: The Election Commission of India has unveiled the voting schedule for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, fixing April 26, 2024, as the polling day for Rajnandgaon, Mahasamund, and Kanker parliamentary constituencies. Voters in these constituencies will cast their ballots in the second phase of the elections.

According to the notification issued by the Election Commission, polling will commence at 7 am and conclude at 6 pm in Pandaria, Kawardha, Khairagarh, Dongargarh, Rajnandgaon, Dongargaon, and Khujji assembly constituencies under the Rajnandgaon parliamentary constituency. However, in the Mohla-Manpur assembly constituency, voting will conclude at 3 pm.

Similarly, in Saraipali, Basna, Khallari, Mahasamund, Rajim, Kurud, and Dhamtari assembly constituencies under the Mahasamund parliamentary constituency, polling hours will be from 7 am to 6 pm. However, for 9 polling stations in Bindranavagarh Assembly Constituency under Mahasamund Parliamentary Constituency, voting will end at 3 pm, while for the rest, it will conclude at 6 pm.

In the Kanker parliamentary constituency, voting will take place from 7 am to 6 pm in Sihawa, Sanjari Balod, Dondilohara, and Gunderdehi assembly constituencies. Meanwhile, in Antagarh, Bhanupratappur, Kanker, and Keshkal assembly constituencies, polling will end at 3 pm.

Exit Polls Banned in the Run-up to Elections

In a separate notification, the Election Commission announced a ban on organizing and telecasting exit polls from April 19 to June 1, 2024. Citing provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Commission emphasized the prohibition of any form of exit poll during this period.

According to the notification, no exit polls will be conducted or disseminated in any form from 7 am on April 19, 2024, until 6:30 pm on June 1, 2024. Additionally, the Commission clarified that during the 48-hour period preceding the end of voting in Lok Sabha constituencies, there will be a ban on displaying any election-related content, including the results of opinion polls, across electronic media.
