TFP Bureau, Raipur, March 31, 2024: The Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee launched vigorous protests across all districts of the state in response to Income Tax Department notices amounting to Rs. 1823 crore served to the Congress party. Denouncing what they termed as the dictatorial approach of the BJP-led Central Government, Congress workers condemned the Income Tax Department, accusing it of being a mere instrument of the BJP’s agenda. District Congress presidents and senior leaders spearheaded the demonstrations statewide, vowing to intensify the movement in the days ahead.
State Congress President Deepak Baij lambasted the Modi government, alleging that its actions, including freezing Congress’ bank accounts and issuing recovery notices, were aimed at impeding the party’s electoral prospects by depriving it of financial resources. Baij highlighted the pattern of suspicious activities by the BJP government, including the PM CARES Fund controversy and demonetization, while the Income Tax Department remained indifferent. He criticized the selective targeting of the Congress, stressing that political parties are not liable to pay income tax, a privilege never afforded to the BJP. The move to freeze bank accounts based on a 30-year-old case, Baij asserted, is undemocratic and politically motivated.
