BALCO Empowers Local Women and Community at Unnati Utsav

Celebrating Entrepreneurship and Social Impact in Chhattisgarh

TFP Bureau, Korba; April 01, 2024 – Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO), a leading aluminum producer and a unit of Vedanta Aluminium, marked the successful conclusion of the 3rd edition of ‘Unnati Utsav,’ a flagship event under BALCO’s Project Unnati. Dedicated to showcasing the entrepreneurial prowess of women from local communities, the event served as a platform for self-help groups to exhibit their products and celebrate their journey towards financial independence.

The Unnati Utsav, held in commemoration of International Women’s Day 2024, featured over 650 women from nearby communities who demonstrated their entrepreneurial skills through a diverse range of products, including decor items, confectioneries, food items, and health and hygiene products. The event attracted enthusiastic participation from individuals keen to support and engage with the vibrant entrepreneurial spirit of the region.

In addition to the exhibition, attendees were treated to cultural performances and games, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Chhattisgarh. Traditional dance forms such as Karma and Raut delighted the audience, while thought-provoking plays addressed crucial social issues including women’s empowerment, menstrual health management, entrepreneurship, and girls’ education.

Mr. Rajesh Kumar, CEO & Director of BALCO, expressed the company’s commitment to supporting women’s economic empowerment through initiatives like Project Unnati. He emphasized the importance of providing skills training, financial literacy, and market linkage opportunities to enable women to achieve self-reliance and contribute to societal progress.

As a testament to its dedication to community welfare, BALCO also honored 16 individuals for their exemplary contributions to social causes, ranging from health and education to sustainable livelihoods. These individuals were recognized for their tireless efforts in driving positive change within their communities.

Moreover, BALCO unveiled a new Mobile Health Van (MHV) during the event, underscoring its commitment to ensuring the health and well-being of local communities. The MHV initiative aims to provide essential primary healthcare services to remote areas through regular visits, camps, and consultation services.

Mr. S. N. Kesari, Chief Health and Medical Officer (CHMO) of Korba district, lauded BALCO’s initiative, emphasizing the importance of accessible healthcare for all individuals, especially those in remote areas.

Through its holistic community interventions, BALCO continues to positively impact the lives of over 1.5 lakh individuals annually across 123 villages in Chhattisgarh. By focusing on areas such as health, education, sustainable livelihoods, and rural infrastructure development, BALCO strives to foster inclusive growth and development in the region.
