TFP Bureau, Raipur; April 03, 2024: Vandana Rajput, spokesperson for the Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee, launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government’s latest liquor policy, expressing grave concerns over its impact on women and families across the state. Rajput criticized the government’s decision to permit liquor stands even within airport premises, accusing the BJP of prioritizing revenue over public welfare.
“The innocent people of Chhattisgarh are being pushed into the abyss of alcohol addiction,” Rajput declared, condemning the BJP’s purported aim of generating over Rs 11,000 crore in revenue from liquor sales for the fiscal year 2024-25. She warned that the resurgence of policies reminiscent of the previous BJP administration’s tenure would exacerbate social problems, including domestic violence and sexual assaults fueled by alcohol consumption.
Rajput underscored the BJP’s apparent disregard for women’s safety, highlighting the correlation between alcohol abuse and incidents of violence within households. “Husbands start beating wives and children after drinking alcohol and ruining the whole house due to alcohol,” she lamented, accusing BJP leaders of prioritizing profit over public welfare.
The Congress spokesperson asserted that the BJP’s policies reflected a fundamental lack of concern for women and families. “If Bharatiya Janata Party gives ₹5 to the public, then it takes out ₹20 from the public’s pocket,” Rajput criticized, alleging the government’s profit-driven approach to governance.
Furthermore, Rajput lauded the efforts of the previous Congress government in implementing prohibition measures, which resulted in the closure of 100 liquor shops and bars. She expressed disappointment at the BJP government’s reversal of these initiatives, undermining the progress achieved in promoting social awareness and combating alcohol abuse.
Drawing attention to the BJP’s ideological inconsistency, Rajput highlighted the party’s previous condemnation of alcohol consumption during the Congress government’s tenure. She accused BJP leaders of opportunistic politics, noting their swift shift in stance upon assuming power. “Many leaders had also said that the Bharatiya Janata Party There may be liquor ban if the government comes to power,” Rajput recalled, criticizing the BJP’s apparent disregard for its earlier promises.
As the debate over the BJP’s liquor policy continues to intensify, concerns regarding its societal ramifications, particularly on women’s safety and public health, remain at the forefront of public discourse.
