Taxpayers Can Access ITR Functionalities for A.Y. 2024-25 on E-filing Portal

TFP Bureau, New Delhi; April 4, 2024: The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has rolled out functionalities for taxpayers to file their Income Tax Returns (ITRs) for the Assessment Year 2024-25 (pertaining to Financial Year 2023-24) from April 1, 2024. Key ITR forms including ITR-1, ITR-2, ITR-4, and ITR-6 commonly used by taxpayers are now available on the e-filing portal.

In preparation for this launch, CBDT had earlier notified the ITR forms starting with ITRs 1 and 4 on December 22, 2023, followed by ITR-6 on January 24, 2024, and ITR-2 on January 31, 2024.

Additionally, to support e-Return Intermediaries (ERI), CBDT has made available the JSON Schema for ITR-1, ITR-2, ITR-4, ITR-6, and the Schema of Tax Audit Reports for A.Y. 2024-25, accessible via the downloads section of the e-filing portal.

Taxpayers can now file ITR-1, ITR-2, ITR-4, and ITR-6 for A.Y. 2024-2025 directly on the e-filing portal since April 1, 2024. Notably, over 23,000 ITRs for A.Y. 2024-25 have already been filed to date. The facility to file ITRs 3, 5, and 7 will also be made available shortly.

This initiative marks the first time in recent memory that the Income Tax department has enabled taxpayers to file their returns on the first day of the new financial year, reflecting a significant stride towards enhancing compliance ease and delivering seamless taxpayer services.
