DRDO and Indian Army Achieve Milestone with Indigenous Anti-tank Guided Missile System

Successful Trials Pave the Way for Induction into Indian Army

TFP Bureau, New Delhi, April 14, 2024: The Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) in collaboration with the Indian Army has achieved a significant milestone with the successful trials of the Man Portable Anti-tank Guided Missile (MPATGM) Weapon System, marking a major stride towards indigenous defence technology development.

The MPATGM Weapon System, including the missile, launcher, target acquisition system, and fire control unit, underwent rigorous field evaluations in multiple flight configurations to demonstrate its technological superiority. The trials, conducted to meet the General Staff Qualitative Requirements of the Indian Army, showcased exceptional performance during Warhead Flight Trials held at the Pokhran Field Firing Range in Rajasthan on April 13, 2024.

The penetration trials of the Tandem Warhead System of the MPATGM were particularly successful, proving its capability to defeat modern armour-protected Main Battle Tanks. Equipped with day/night and top attack capabilities along with a dual-mode seeker functionality, the MPATGM system promises advanced capabilities for tank warfare.

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh commended the DRDO and the Indian Army for achieving this significant milestone, emphasizing its importance in advancing self-reliance in advanced defence technology.

Secretary of the Department of Defence Research & Development and Chairman of DRDO, Dr. Samir V. Kamat, also extended congratulations to the teams involved in the successful trials, acknowledging their dedication and expertise in advancing indigenous defence capabilities.

The successful trials pave the way for Final User Evaluation Trials, leading towards the induction of the MPATGM Weapon System into the Indian Army, further bolstering the country’s defence preparedness with cutting-edge technology.
