Vice Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi Named Next Chief of Naval Staff

Naval Veteran to Assume Command from April 30, 2024

TFP Bureau, New Delhi, April 20, 2024: The Government has appointed Vice Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, PVSM, AVSM, NM, currently serving as the Vice Chief of the Naval Staff, as the next Chief of the Naval Staff, effective from the afternoon of April 30, 2024. The outgoing Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral R Hari Kumar, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, is set to retire from service on the same day.

Vice Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, born on May 15, 1964, was commissioned into the Executive Branch of the Indian Navy on July 01, 1985. A specialist in Communication and Electronic Warfare, he boasts a distinguished service record spanning nearly 39 years. Prior to his appointment as Vice Chief of the Naval Staff, he served as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command.

Throughout his illustrious career, VAdm DK Tripathi has commanded Indian Naval Ships Vinash, Kirch, and Trishul, demonstrating exceptional leadership and operational acumen. His tenure has also encompassed pivotal operational and staff roles, including Fleet Operations Officer of the Western Fleet, Director of Naval Operations, and Principal Director of Network Centric Operations and Naval Plans in New Delhi.

In higher ranks, he has held key positions such as Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Policy and Plans), Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet, Commandant of the Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala, and Director General of Naval Operations. Notably, he has also served as Chief of Personnel and Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command.

An alumnus of Sainik School, Rewa, and the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, Vice Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi has undergone rigorous training at prestigious institutions such as the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington, Naval Higher Command Course in Karanja, and the United States Naval War College. His diverse expertise and extensive experience position him as a fitting successor to lead the Indian Navy into its next chapter of excellence and service.
