TFP Bureau, New Delhi; April 24, 2024: As India gears up for the third phase of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024, a total of 1351 candidates from 12 States/UTs are set to contest, reflecting robust participation in the democratic process. The nomination process witnessed significant interest, with 2963 nomination forms filed across 95 Parliamentary Constituencies (PCs).
Among the notable figures, Gujarat led with 658 nominations across 26 PCs, followed closely by Maharashtra with 519 nominations from 11 PCs. The Osmanabad Parliamentary Constituency in Maharashtra received the highest number of nomination forms at 77, followed by Bilaspur PC in Chhattisgarh with 68 forms.
After scrutiny, 1563 nominations were deemed valid, paving the way for 1351 final candidates to contest after withdrawals were processed by the deadline of April 22, 2024.
State/UT-wise Breakdown for Phase 3 of Lok Sabha Elections 2024:
Assam: 4 PCs received 126 nominations, resulting in 52 valid candidates contesting.
Bihar: Across 5 PCs, 141 nominations were filed, with 54 candidates cleared for contesting.
Chhattisgarh: 7 PCs saw 319 nominations, yielding 187 valid candidates for the electoral race.
Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu: 2 PCs received 28 nominations, leading to 13 valid candidates.
Goa: Across 2 PCs, 33 nominations were filed, with 16 candidates making the cut.
Gujarat: A total of 658 nominations were submitted for 26 PCs, resulting in 328 valid candidates after scrutiny.
Jammu & Kashmir: One PC received 28 nominations, with 21 valid candidates after scrutiny.
Karnataka: Across 14 PCs, 503 nominations were filed, yielding 272 candidates for the electoral fray.
Madhya Pradesh: 9 PCs received 236 nominations, resulting in 140 valid candidates contesting.
Maharashtra: 11 PCs saw 519 nominations, with 317 candidates cleared for contesting after scrutiny.
Uttar Pradesh: Across 10 PCs, 271 nominations were filed, leading to 104 valid candidates contesting.
West Bengal: 4 PCs received 101 nominations, with 59 candidates contesting after scrutiny.
