TFP Bureau, New Delhi; April 30, 2024: Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, PVSM, AVSM, NM, took charge as the 26th Chief of the Naval Staff of the Indian Navy on April 30, 2024. He succeeds Admiral R Hari Kumar, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, ADC, who bids farewell upon reaching superannuation, culminating a distinguished tenure in the Indian Navy.
Admiral Tripathi, an alumnus of Sainik School Rewa and the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, was commissioned into the Executive Branch of the Indian Navy on July 1, 1985. A specialist in Communication and Electronic Warfare, he has served aboard frontline warships in various capacities, including Signal Communication Officer and Electronic Warfare Officer, and later as Executive Officer and Principal Warfare Officer of the Guided Missile Destroyer INS Mumbai.
Throughout his nearly four-decade-long career, Admiral Tripathi has commanded several vessels at sea, including INS Vinash, INS Kirch, and INS Trishul. He has held numerous significant operational and staff roles, including Fleet Operations Officer of the Western Fleet in Mumbai, Director of Naval Operations, Principal Director Network Centric Operations, and Principal Director Naval Plans in New Delhi. His leadership roles expanded upon promotion to Rear Admiral, where he served as Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Policy and Plans) at NHQ and as Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet. Further promotions saw him as Vice Admiral, serving as Commandant of the esteemed Indian Naval Academy in Ezhimala, Kerala, Director General of Naval Operations, Chief of Personnel, and Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command in Mumbai.
Admiral Tripathi’s professional development includes courses at Signal School in Kochi, Defence Services Staff College in Wellington, Naval Higher Command Course in Karanja, and Naval Command College at the United States Naval War College.
Prior to assuming the role of Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Tripathi served as the Vice Chief of Naval Staff, bringing with him a wealth of experience and expertise to guide the Indian Navy into its next chapter under his leadership.
