TFP Bureau, Bilaspur; May 2, 2024: In a significant turn of events, IPS GP Singh has been granted a substantial reprieve by the High Court, which has suspended the registration of an FIR against him lodged at Supela police station. The decision comes as a respite for Singh, who had petitioned the court to annul the FIR.
The origins of the case trace back to a dispute in 2015 involving builder Singhania of Durg Kamal Sen over business contributions. Allegedly, during the altercation, Singhania instructed Sen to contact IP Singh, yet attempts to reach Singh proved futile.
Fast forward six years to 2021, when Kamal Sen filed an FIR at Supela police station, alleging that GP Singh had coerced him into paying Rs 20 lakh under threat. Singh swiftly moved to challenge the FIR’s validity in court, contending that the delay of six years in filing the complaint undermined its credibility.
In a hearing presided over by Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha and Justice Rajni Dubey, the court acknowledged the prolonged duration between the incident and the filing of the FIR. Furthermore, it noted the procedural lapse, highlighting the absence of Section 197 invocation, a prerequisite for initiating criminal proceedings against a public servant.
In light of these factors, the High Court imposed a stay on the FIR, providing interim relief to GP Singh amidst a backdrop of legal battles he has faced during the Congress administration. Previously incarcerated and dismissed from duty, Singh appealed to the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), which ruled in his favor, directing the state government to expunge all cases against him within four weeks and reinstate his position.
This latest development marks a significant milestone in GP Singh’s legal saga, offering him a glimmer of hope amidst the tumultuous terrain of judicial proceedings.
