TFP Bureau, Raipur, May 14, 2024: The fourth phase of General Elections 2024 witnessed peaceful polling across 96 polling constituencies (PCs) in 10 States/UTs, recording an approximate voter turnout of 67.25% as of 11:45 pm. The Election Commission (EC) reported that polling concluded smoothly, with stringent security measures ensuring a conducive environment for voters.
The state-wise approximate voter turnout as of 11:45 pm is as follows:
- Andhra Pradesh: 76.50%
- Bihar: 57.06%
- Jammu and Kashmir: 37.98%
- Jharkhand: 65.2%
- Madhya Pradesh: 70.98%
- Maharashtra: 59.64%
- Odisha: 73.97%
- Telangana: 64.74%
- Uttar Pradesh: 58.05%
- West Bengal: 78.37%
In a bid to enhance transparency, the Voter Turnout App has been updated to allow Android users to take screenshots, offering a glimpse into the voting process. The EC, led by Chief Election Commissioner Shri Rajiv Kumar, closely monitored the poll process, issuing necessary directives to uphold fairness and integrity.
Despite an unfortunate incident in Champapet, Telangana, where a polling official passed away while on duty, polling continued uninterrupted. The Commission promptly directed the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Telangana to disburse ex-gratia payment to the deceased official’s family.
The turnout figures, while provisional, provide insight into voting patterns across various States/UTs. Notably, Srinagar witnessed its highest turnout in decades, underscoring a significant participation of voters amidst heightened security measures. Additionally, polling for State Legislative Assemblies in Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh concluded smoothly.
The weather remained largely favorable, with voters enthusiastically participating in the electoral process under clear skies across the 10 States/UTs where polling took place in Phase IV. A total of 1,717 candidates contested in this phase, reflecting a diverse electoral landscape.
With the successful completion of Phase IV, polling for General Elections has surpassed the halfway mark, covering 23 States/UTs and 379 PCs. Additionally, polling is complete for State Legislative Assemblies in Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Andhra Pradesh, and 28 assembly seats in Odisha.
The next phase of polling (Phase 5) is scheduled for May 20, 2024, encompassing 49 PCs across 8 States/UTs. As the electoral process advances, the Election Commission remains committed to ensuring a fair and transparent electioneering process across the country.
