BALCO Promotes Safety Culture in Community with Children’s Involvement

Community Development Initiatives Foster Safety Awareness

TFP Bureau, Korba; May 16, 2024: Bharat Aluminum Company Limited (BALCO), a Vedanta Group company, has launched several initiatives under its Community Development Initiative to bolster the development of a safety culture within the community. The company remains dedicated to organizing various security awareness sessions throughout the year, focusing on road, fire, and home safety. As part of its commitment to road safety, BALCO has installed 35 traffic signs in 10 key areas of the community, reaching out to approximately 4000 community members.

In the fiscal year 2024, BALCO successfully conducted over 70 safety training sessions, engaging 2000 individuals from the community, including school children and students of Vedanta Skill School. Through sessions, quizzes, slogan campaigns, and poster making activities, the company has effectively imparted safety training. Additionally, BALCO has trained 16 master trainers who will champion the company’s zero harm culture within the community, actively promoting safety awareness programs and initiatives.

As a responsible industrial organization, BALCO prioritizes the safety and well-being of the community. The company has launched various initiatives under its road safety awareness campaign, including the distribution of a Road Safety Calendar for the financial year 2024-25. To promote defensive driving, the company provided helmets to 120 students who commute to school by bicycle.

In response to increased traffic pressure on the Ring Road due to the diversion of Sarvamangala Temple, BALCO undertook road widening and renovation projects, ensuring safe vehicle movement. The company deployed speed breakers, zebra crossings, and retro-reflective signboards across various routes, enhancing road safety measures.

Furthermore, BALCO conducted extensive training sessions to raise awareness of fire safety measures within the community. The company’s dedicated fire safety team responded to over 200 emergencies in the fiscal year 2024. Training sessions covered fire extinguisher usage, CPR techniques, and fire prevention protocols, aimed at expediting emergency response times.

BALCO remains committed to fostering a safety culture within the community through continuous awareness and educational initiatives, involving children and adults alike in promoting a safer environment for all.
