Congress Alleges Corruption in Gudhiyari Power Warehouse Fire Report

Claims Inquiry Committee’s Findings Understate Losses and Ignore Accountability

Raipur, 19 May 2024 – Sushil Anand Shukla, Chairman of the State Congress Communication Department, has raised serious concerns over the inquiry committee’s report on the Gudhiyari power warehouse fire. Shukla alleged that the report downplays the corruption in the BJP government over the past four months, whitewashing the extent of the damage and shielding the corrupt.

Initial media reports suggested that the state government incurred losses of at least Rs 500 crore due to the fire, whereas the committee’s report estimated the loss at only Rs 50 crore. Shukla criticized the report for failing to hold anyone accountable for the fire or recommend any action, thereby protecting those who may have exploited the government treasury.

Shukla further ridiculed the investigation’s explanation that grass and oil spills caused the fire in a cement warehouse, suggesting the fire was deliberate. He pointed to potential scams and irregularities in the procurement and transfer of electricity and goods as the underlying issues.

Highlighting the BJP government’s history of corruption and commission-stealing, Shukla demanded a thorough investigation by an independent agency and strict action against those responsible for the warehouse fire. The Congress party calls for transparency and accountability to prevent such incidents in the future.
