ECI ensures robust arrangements; simultaneous polling in Odisha Assembly Constituencies

TFP Bureau, New Delhi, May 24, 2024: As the penultimate phase of Lok Sabha polls approaches, the Election Commission of India (ECI) stands fully prepared for Phase-6 polling set to commence tomorrow. Covering 58 Parliamentary Constituencies (PCs) across 8 States/Union Territories, this phase sees Haryana and NCT of Delhi joining the electoral fray alongside Bihar, Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.

Simultaneous polling for 42 Assembly Constituencies in Odisha adds to the electoral vibrancy, amplifying democratic engagement across the region.

With a focus on voter comfort and safety, concerned CEOs and state machineries have been instructed to mitigate any adverse effects of hot weather or rainfall. Polling stations stand equipped with essential amenities such as shade, drinking water, ramps, and toilets, ensuring a conducive environment for voter participation.

Over 11.13 crore voters are expected to exercise their franchise across 1.14 lakh polling stations, supported by a workforce of around 11.4 lakh polling officials. Notably, measures like home voting for elderly and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) voters have garnered significant praise, reflecting the ECI’s commitment to inclusive electoral practices.

Ahead of polling day, special attention is directed towards urban centers like Delhi, Gurgaon, and Faridabad, urging urban voters to actively participate and shatter the trend of urban apathy.

With the final phase scheduled for June 1 and counting of votes on June 4, the electoral journey has traversed smoothly thus far, with the first five phases witnessing peaceful polling across 25 States/UTs and 428 PCs.

Key highlights for Phase-6 include the deployment of special trains for security personnel, arrival of observers, and extensive surveillance measures to curb electoral malpractices. Assured minimum facilities at polling stations ensure accessibility for all voters, reinforcing the ethos of inclusive democracy.

As the nation gears up for another significant electoral milestone, the ECI emphasizes the importance of voter turnout and responsible voting, encouraging citizens to exercise their democratic right with pride and diligence.
