TFP Bureau, Raipur; May 25, 2024: On the anniversary of the Jheeram incident, the Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee has launched scathing allegations against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing it of conspiring to suppress the truth. State Congress Communication Department Chairman Sushil Anand Shukla asserted that the Jheeram Valley tragedy, which claimed the lives of 32 opposition leaders, remains a dark chapter in independent India’s history, with the culpability of the BJP-led government under Dr. Raman Singh needing to be addressed.
According to Congress, BJP’s apprehension stems from the potential exposure of its role in the Jheeram incident. Shukla claimed that the BJP government, under Dr. Raman Singh’s leadership, made concerted efforts to hinder investigations into the massacre. Despite the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) by the Congress government, BJP allegedly prevented the National Investigation Agency (NIA) from transferring crucial files to the SIT, hindering progress towards uncovering the truth.
Furthermore, Shukla highlighted the role of former opposition leader Dharamlal Kaushik in obtaining a stay on the Jheeram Judicial Commission’s investigation, suggesting a concerted effort by BJP to thwart any inquiry that could implicate its members.
In light of these allegations, Congress demands that the SIT, established by the previous Congress government, be empowered to investigate the conspiracy surrounding the Jheeram incident. Shukla emphasized that the people of Chhattisgarh deserve transparency and accountability regarding the security lapses during the Congress’ Parivartan Yatra, conducted in a heavily Naxal-affected region.
Despite facing obstacles, Congress remains resolute in its pursuit of justice for the victims of the Jheeram tragedy. Shukla affirmed the party’s unwavering commitment to uncovering the truth behind the incident, vowing to confront any attempts to thwart the investigation.
