TFP Bureau, New Delhi, May 26, 2024: The sixth phase of General Elections 2024 witnessed vibrant democratic participation across 58 Parliamentary Constituencies (PCs) in eight States/Union Territories (UTs), with an approximate voter turnout of 59.06% as of 7:45 pm. Despite scorching temperatures in certain regions, voters displayed unwavering determination as they queued patiently to exercise their franchise.
In a significant development, the Anantnag-Rajouri PC in Jammu and Kashmir recorded a historic turnout of 52.28% by 7:45 pm, marking the highest voter participation in decades. With this milestone, polling for Parliamentary seats in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir concluded. Notably, the Srinagar (38.49%), Baramulla (59.1%), and Anantnag-Rajouri (52.28% as of 7:45 PM) constituencies in the valley have recorded remarkable voter turnouts, reflecting a resurgence in democratic engagement.
Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Jharkhand, NCT Delhi, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal were among the States/UTs that witnessed polling in this phase, with a total of 889 candidates vying for electoral success.
The Chief Election Commissioner, Shri Rajiv Kumar, and Election Commissioners, Shri Gyanesh Kumar and Shri Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, exercised their franchise along with their families, underscoring the commitment to a transparent and fair electoral process. Rigorous security measures ensured a conducive environment for voters to cast their ballots without fear or intimidation.
With Odisha hosting simultaneous polling for 42 Assembly Constituencies, the State registered a voter turnout of 60.07% by 7:45 PM, echoing scenes of jubilation as citizens celebrated their democratic rights.
With the conclusion of Phase 6, polling for General Elections 2024 has concluded in 28 States/UTs and 486 PCs, alongside State Legislative Assembly polls in Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Andhra Pradesh, and 105 Assembly seats in Odisha. The final phase (Phase 7) is slated for June 1, 2024, across 57 PCs in eight States/UTs.
