TFP Bureau, Raipur, June 2, 2024: State Congress President and MP Deepak Baij has called on the state government to withdraw the recent 8% increase in electricity rates, citing the financial burden it places on citizens already struggling with inflation. Baij highlighted the Congress-initiated Bijli Bill Half Yojana, which provided significant relief to 44 lakh domestic consumers over five years, saving each household up to Rs 50,000.
Baij criticized the BJP government, labeling it anti-people, and claimed its policies have consistently harmed the economically vulnerable. He pointed out that the removal of a 30% registration discount has dashed the hopes of the poor to buy land. Additionally, the mandatory e-bill for transactions over Rs 50,000 has burdened small and medium traders, including street vendors.
According to Baij, the electricity rate hike will exacerbate financial woes for households, traders, and industrialists alike. He also noted the frequent power cuts since the BJP came to power, contrasting it with the uninterrupted supply during the Congress administration. Baij warned of upcoming protests by the Congress against the rate increase and demanded its immediate withdrawal.
