TFP Bureau, Raipur, June 6, 2024: Chhattisgarh is set to become a leading state in sustainability and regenerative development, following intensive discussions held today by the State Policy Commission. The meeting focused on preparing the “Chhattisgarh Vision 2047” document, with members presenting their views on short, medium, and long-term goals.
The responsibility for crafting this vision document has been entrusted to the State Policy Commission, which aims to finalize the report by September 2024. Eight working groups have been formed to tackle various subjects, including sustainable development and climate resilience. The meeting, held at the State Policy Commission in Naya Raipur, saw participation from key members, including Member Secretary Anoop Shrivastava, Member K. Subramaniam, Chief Minister’s Secretary Rahul Bhagat, and Advisor Dr. Dhirendra Tiwari.
Discussions covered a range of critical topics such as creating a sustainable society resilient to climate change, improving various indices like the SDG index and energy and climate index, reducing carbon footprints, and enhancing agriculture, forestry, and industrial impact assessments. The working group also emphasized the importance of technology-driven research and development, funding from both government and private sectors, public awareness, ecosystem restoration, social equality, and public welfare.
Shrivastava and Subramaniam highlighted the urgent need to focus on rejuvenated development alongside sustainability. They expressed concern over the decreasing forests and the resulting decline in forest produce, stressing the need for a clear roadmap for forest conservation. Continuous mining around rivers and the loss of grasslands were identified as critical issues requiring immediate action to improve ecosystems and preserve biodiversity. The meeting also emphasized renewable energy, waste management, recycling, social participation, and sewerage disposal.
Presentations were made by officials from various departments, including the Good Governance Convergence Department, Planning Economic and Statistics Department, Forest and Climate Change Department, Mineral Resources Department, Energy Department, Panchayat and Rural Development Department, and the Chhattisgarh Renewable Energy Development Agency. These presentations detailed the goals, challenges, and capabilities of each department. The meeting also included virtual participation from the Collectors of District Kabirdham and District Surajpur.
